Key Considerations for Selecting Linear Modules in Automation Equipment Applications

Linear modules are the most commonly used standardized components in automation equipment. Due to the wide variety of sliding units available, incorrect selection during the model selection process can lead to various issues affecting equipment performance and project progress. Therefore, the selection of linear modules is crucial.

The selection of a module slide can be based on the following steps:

Determine the operating environment of the module slide: Identify whether it is a standard environment, a clean environment, or a harsh environment.

Determine the installation orientation of the module slide. Decide if it will be mounted horizontally, on a wall, or vertically.

Determine the load that the module slide will carry.

Calculate the operating speed and acceleration of the module slide.

Verify the allowable moment of the module slide: Calculate the moment values for each direction during stationary (or constant velocity) and acceleration/deceleration states.

Determine the required accuracy grade for the module slide: Define the necessary repeat positioning accuracy and traveling parallelism.

Select the motor mounting style: Common configurations include direct connection, left-side mounting, right-side mounting, or bottom mounting.

Determine the travel limit switch method for the module slide.

Specify the motor specifications and power for the module slide.

The performance of a module slide can be evaluated based on the following aspects:

Accuracy characteristics: These include repeat positioning accuracy, positioning accuracy, traveling parallelism, traveling straightness, and backlash.

Motion characteristics: These include load capacity, moment resistance, operating speed, acceleration, and operating noise.
